South Asians for Human Rights

Promoting Democracy, Upholding Human Rights

South Asians for Human Rights (SAHR) has compiled a database with judgements on 14 selected economic, social and cultural (ESC) rights of five South Asian countries – Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

SAHR compiled these judgements to contribute to the greater awareness on ESC rights and their protection through judicial intervention in the South Asian region; and to provide an overview of emblematic judgements pronounced by courts in the South Asian region that contribute to advancing ESC rights.

In the second phase of this activity, SAHR hopes to prepare a narrative report analysing the justiciability of ESC rights in South Asia and to explore the role played by social movements and NGOs in advancing ESC rights.

The database could be accessed at http://escrj.southasianrights.org/

SAHR will continue to update this database as and when judgements are received. Please contact the SAHR Secretariat if you wish to contribute to this programme.
