Cuttack: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the state Chief Secretary and Energy department secretary to depose before it in connection with the state government’s failure to pay compensation to the family of a youth who died from electrocution.

The rights body has directed the Chief Secretary and the Energy department secretary to depose before it and submit replies by April 25.

The incident had occurred at Kundumunda village under Dunguripali block in Subarnapur district July 7, 2014.

Pabitra Dora, a resident of Ranabandh village in Titilagarh area of Bolangir district had gone to Kundumunda to meet a close relative.

Dora came in contact with a dangling 11 KV wire near a rice mill while travelling on a bicycle. Dora died on the spot.

Human rights activist Jayanta Das had filed a case in this regard with the NHRC July 14, 2014. The petitioner had sought Rs 10 lakh compensation to the victim’s family and appropriate action against the errant officials.

Taking up the case February 14, 2018, the NHRC had directed the state government to pay Rs 3 lakh compensation to the victim’s family and submit the required documents to it.

However, the state government has not paid the compensation yet.
