The International Day of the Girl Child is being observed on Saturday (today) with 2014 theme “Empowering Adolescent Girls: Ending the Cycle of Violence”.

In this respect, different seminars, conference and rallies will arrange by different human rights organisations and non-government organisations (NGOs) in the city to create a protective environment for girls.

On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare 11 October as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. 

In recognition of the importance of investing in and empowering girls during adolescence, preventing and eliminating the various forms of violence they experience.

Meanwhile, a delegation of girls will have a meeting with the Human Rights minister at his residence at 11 am under the banner of Children Advocacy Network (CAN) Pakistan. 

Delegation of girls will also meet with president and governing body members of Lahore Press Club at 12pm.  A delegation will discuss child marriage with Dr Raghib Naeemi at his seminary Jamia Sirajia Naeemia, Mughalpura (for girls) at 1pm.
