A memorandum, addressed to the United Nations secretary general, was presented on behalf of the National Assembly Special Committee on Kashmir chairman in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day on Thursday.
The memo was presented to the UN Resident Representative Timo Pakkala in his office by Kashmir Committee members Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, Malik Ibrar Ahmed, Shakila Khalid and Luqman Chaudhry.
The memorandum is a bid to remind the United Nations its multiple valid resolutions on Kashmir which called India for arranging and facilitating a plebiscite under UN auspices, to account for the political consent of Kashmiris.
The memorandum also calls for an immediate UN intervention in Kashmir dispute which is marked by gross human rights violations from Seven Hundred Thousand-strong Indian security forces, said a press release.
The memorandum said not only have the people of Jammu and Kashmir been denied their right to self-determination by India, they are also facing worst kind of human rights violations at the hands of more than 70,000 Indian security forces.
More than 94,000 Kashmiris have been killed, out of which more than 7,000 persons have been killed in Indian forces custody. More than 105,000 structures have been destroyed, more than 22,000 women have been widowed, more than 105,000 children have been orphaned and more than 10,000 women have been raped and molested by Indian military and paramilitary troops n Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) since 1989.
In addition to these, the phenomenon of half widows has emerged in IOK – the wives of persons missing for more than twenty years – and their numbers run in thousands.
