Global probe into HR violations in IOK demanded
Srinagar, February 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership has said that India cannot stifle the voice for freedom by resorting to aggressive policies and imposing ban on political opponents in the territory.

The leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement issued in Srinagar made it clear to India that popular movements could not be defeated by military oppression, police highhandedness and killings. The leaders reiterated to continue their struggle against the illegal Indian occupation peacefully and politically. The leaders while condemning the unrelenting attacks on Kashmiri businessmen, students, tourists and people from other walks of life in various states of India said that these attacks were apparently instigated by the ruling regime of India.

The Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in statement issued in Srinagar termed the growing attacks on Kashmiri students and traders inside India as shameful. The Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Kashmir dispute could only be resolved by addressing the issue in its historical perspective.

Groups of Hindu extremists ransacked properties worth millions of rupees belonging to the Muslim community in Poonch area of Jammu region. The Hindu rioters raised provocative and anti-Muslim slogans at Mohalla Alapir of Poonch town and destroyed around a dozen of private vehicles apart from other material assets.

Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhadarwah in a statement called for a complete shutdown in Chenab valley, tomorrow, as a mark of protest against the harassment of the Muslim community and damage to their properties in Jammu region.

The Group of Concerned Citizens, which comprises civil society members, in a statement, asked India to find out a lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute through talks with Kashmiri people and a diplomatic engagement with Pakistan. The Group expressed grave concern over the attacks by Hindu hooligans in Jammu and elsewhere on Muslim community members.

APHC-AJK chapter at a meeting in Islamabad said that under a premeditated plan India is repeating the history of 1947 massacre of Muslims in Jammu.

Speakers at an event organized by the Sub-Committee of Human Rights of the European Parliament in Brussels called for implementation of the recommendations put forth in the June 2018 report on Kashmir by the United Nations’ Office of High Commissioner on Human Rights. While referring to the report, they demanded an international investigation into human rights violations by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir Self Determination Movement International in collaboration with Friends of Kashmir in European Parliament also held a conference on Kashmir in Brussels. The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider participated in the conference as chief guest.
