South Asians for Human Rights

Promoting Democracy, Upholding Human Rights

South Asians for Human Rights (SAHR), a regional network of human rights defenders, strongly condemn the recent killing of two Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) Fatima Khalil and Jawed Folad attached to the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) in a bomb blast on 27 June 2020 in Kabul, Afghanistan.

SAHR believes that these killings and the continuous destruction of civilian lives and the lives of a considerable number of security personnel in the past few weeks emphasise the urgent need for peace and political stability in the country.

Further, it is imperative that HRDs should not be attacked for the important work that they do and SAHR reiterates the call of AIHRC demanding justice for the death of their staff.

Whilst calling for an immediate probe into the blast SAHR urges the government and non-state actors to implement immediate measures to ensure the protection of the civilians and non-disruption of their daily life during these difficult times of COVID -19 pandemic.
