Promoting Democracy, Upholding Human Rights

The members of civil society and human rights activists at a gathering on Wednesday asked the government to ensure protection to the rights of the citizens.

The Sahara Development Foundation has organsied the session to discuss the problems being faced by the members of civil society and human rights activists.

Executive Director of the foundation Qamar Hayat, members’ civil society Qamar Naseem, Sikandar Zaman, Taimour Khan and others attended the session.

The speakers welcomed the steps taken by the state for elimination of terrorism and extremism but expressed concern about the alleged violation of human rights in the country in general and in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (Pata) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular.

They said there were restrictions on the social and human rights activists. They said the people of Fata, Pata and KP were deprived of their rights due to non-implementation of the existing laws.

They demanded the government to ensure rights to its citizens and provide protection to the members’ civil society and human rights activists so they could perform their duties without any fear.
