South Asians for Human Rights

Promoting Democracy, Upholding Human Rights

South Asians for Human Rights (SAHR), a regional network of human rights defenders, is deeply disturbed at reports of the continuous intimidation of senior Indian lawyers Indira Jaising and Anand Grover, both highly respected worldwide for their path-breaking work on human rights, especially for women and marginalised communities.

We express our serious concern over the raid by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at the residence and offices of Ms Jaising and Mr Grover in connection with an investigation into their alleged violation of foreign donation laws.

We call upon the Indian Government to cease the harassment against Lawyers Collective, Indira Jaising and Anand Grover.

SAHR also calls upon the Government of India to desist from silencing civil society by imposing legal, political and administrative hurdles.

On behalf of the members of South Asians for Human Rights,
